History made as Spa Ladies play first ever Minor Match

Report by Aisling O'Mahony

Spa Minor Ladies made history on Monday evening under the lights in Spa as the club fielded its first ever Minor Ladies team, taking on Duagh in their opening league game.

Spa started strongly and registered the first two scores, making good use of the wind in the first half. Julia Casey was solid in goals, while the defence of Lily O’Shea, Alana Collins and Aoife O’Sullivan worked tirelessly. In midfield, captain Ciara O’Sullivan and Niamh Daly covered huge ground and linked well with the forwards of Caoimhe O’Neill, Ciara Lawler and Jodi Leahy.

Spa led by five points at halftime and made a flying start to the second half with an early goal. Duagh battled hard but Spa proved too strong. Super performances were also given by Lily O’Leary, Aisling Gallagher, Ava Brosnan, Laura Cremin and Sheolagh Daly, who added scores and did trojan work in defence. Duagh pushed hard to get back into the game, but Spa proved too strong on the night finishing with an excellent 5-8 to 1-2 victory.

It was a fantastic evening for the club with a large crowd in attendance, and the girls can be very proud of their performance as they look forward to the rest of the league campaign.

Next up for our Minors is a trip to Killorglin to face Laune Rangers B team on Thursday 12th March, 6:30pm.
