Spa GAA was a hive of activity on Saturday as we hosted our annual Girls and Boys U8 & U10 Blitz, welcoming around 400 young players from Spa, Fossa, Kilcummin, Rathmore and Killarney Legion.
It was a fantastic day of football, fun and friendship, with the young players showcasing plenty of skill and enthusiasm across the pitches.
There was plenty happening away from the football too, with a crossbar challenge and penalty shoot-out proving popular with the children. The bake sale and sweet shop were also a huge success, while the Coffee Dock was as busy as ever throughout the day.
Adding to the excitement was a special appearance from our much-loved mascot Spark, who brought plenty of smiles to the young players and supporters.
An event of this scale simply would not be possible without the incredible support of our volunteers. Led by Blitz Committee Chair Dave O’Sullivan, a huge team of people came together to make the day run so smoothly.
From those involved in setting up and cleaning up, to the car park and traffic stewards, referees, timekeepers, our MC Pádraig Lynch, the Spark mascot team and the many volunteers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes at the bake sale and sweet shop — there was a huge effort from everyone involved.
A special mention also to our goalkeeper James Devane, who rolled back the years... and our brilliant penalty takers Katie O'Brien and Hugh O'Donoghue, who certainly didn’t let the side down!
Most importantly, a massive well done to all the boys and girls who took part. Their enthusiasm, sporting spirit and enjoyment of the game made the day such a success.
A huge thank you to Fossa, Kilcummin, Rathmore and Killarney Legion for joining us, and to all the coaches, parents and supporters who helped make it such a memorable occasion.
It was a brilliant day for the future stars of Kerry football and another great example of what can be achieved when our club community comes together.
