Spa U12 Boys took part in the Tony Moynihan Memorial Tournament this morning in a blustery Rath Beg, in what was the final event of the year.

We started slowly, with losses to eventual Cup winners Kilcummin and hosts Rathmore. The boys rallied with great performances to secure wins against Listry and Gneeveguilla, earning a place in the Shield Final against Listry.

The final proved to be an eventful affair, swinging back and forth, with a last-minute point from Listry sending the game to extra time. Listry pulled away in the first half of extra time, but Spa showed great character to dominate the final minutes, pulling back a four-point deficit to eventually win the game and take the Shield home.

Thanks to Rathmore for inviting us to the tournament and for the warm hospitality shown. It was a great morning’s football.

It has been a great year for this team. They have improved with every game, and today was just reward for all the effort and dedication the boys have shown throughout the year.
