U15 COUNTY LEAGUE DIVISION 1 SPA 1-10 KILLARNEY LEGION 2-6
In our second league game of the season and after an extremely difficult opener away to Austin Stacks our under 15’s welcomed our neighbours Killarney Legion to spa tonight and in very wet and windy conditions our boys came out on top by the smallest of margins.
The weather made this game, a game of two halves, spa had the wind in the first half and went in 0-8 to 0-1 at the break. Legion tagged on some early scores in the second half to reduce the deficit however our boys scored a quick 1-2 to stretch out our lead. To their credit Legion had a late flurry and scored 2-1 in the last 5 minutes to make a nervy end to the game.
Great credit to both sets of players for a very exciting game in really tough conditions.
U14 GIRLS SPA V DR CROKES
Spa U14 girls travelled to Dr.Crokes on Sunday 3rd for Round 4 of the NCP League. There was a strong wind and Spa won the toss so played with the wind in the first half which helped them to immediately open a strong lead. Our forwards were fed great ball by our strong midfield and we finished the first half ahead with a score of 1-07 to 0-01.
The second half was a very different affair with Dr. Crokes now with the wind and after making very clever tactical changes they started to close the gap on the scoreboard. Crokes played very good football and scored some lovely scores but Spa dug deep and showed amazing guts and determination to hang on to the lead. Our backs worked very hard to limit the damage of the Crokes comeback.
It was an incredible display of football and strong, hard teamwork from Spa. Spa came away deserving winners with a score line of 1-08 to 1-05 to Spa. Scorers for Spa were Ava Brosnan: 1-03; Kirsten Kenny: 0-04; Caoimhe O’Neill: 0-01. Spa U14’s have a bye next week.
