Minor Co League semi-final

Spa 3-12 John Mitchels 2-11

In a close, exciting game in Spa, our minors defeated John Mitchels in the Minor Co League Division 6 semi-final.

Ryan Kelliher kicked the opening score and although Mitchels responded shortly after, it was Spa that had the better first half. A second Ryan Kelliher point was followed by a brilliant goal from Michael Horgan. He had a second goal chance minutes later but his effort was well saved before Alan O'Sullivan netted the rebound. Cian Murphy, Calum Neher, Liam Spillane and Oisin Walsh extended the Spa lead and after 20 minutes we led 2-6 to 0-1. Mitchels however clawed back at that lead and with five unanswered points late in the half, the gap was reduced to six points at the break, Spa 2-6 John Mitchels 0-6.

Cian Murphy scored the first point in the second half but two Mitchels scores reduced that gap to just five. Mitchels starting winning more of the breaks and were a constant threat when they moved the ball forward, but a Cian Murphy goal at the end of the third quarter gave Spa a temporary breather. Calum Neher and Ryan Kelliher points kept Spa with the edge and despite late scores and constant pressure from Mitchels, including two goals in the last 10 minutes, injury time points from Ryan Kelliher, Liam Spillane and Eoghan Mulvaney secured the victory.
