Super League Round 3

Venue: Spa Spa: 0-06 Legion: 1-07 Weather conditions in Spa last Sunday had the potential to offer a tricky challenge to all players involved. However, both teams dealt admirably with the wet climate. The home side started best notching up two early points by Matthew Moynihan and Ryan O’Carroll. Legion replied with a goal. The remainder of the half was hard fought. Spa’s Jamie Spillane and Craig Hickey increased the lead with well taken points. This left the minimum between the teams at the interval. Spa 0-05 Legion 1-01.A number of changes were made at the beginning of the second half. Young players namely Timmy Hussey, Darren O’Connor, Aidan Sheppard and the veteran Paul Russell all got a chance to stake their claim for a starting position in the upcoming county league. Jamie Spillane opened the scoring for Spa. However, Legion replied with three well taken points. This saw the visitors taking the lead for the first time. Spa were thrown a life line mid-way through the second half when they were awarded a penalty. The kick was saved. Spa battled on throughout and there are a lot of positives to be taken from this encounter. The game allowed the management to blood some new players at senior level. Card Drive

Final Spa 3I Championship of Kerry on March 27th It's all steam ahead to the final of the Spa 31 Championship of Kerry at The Torc Hotel on Friday March 27th. 45 long years have elapsed since this annual event which is both a valuable fundraiser and also served as a regular weekly social event for the card playing fraternity of both Spa and the wider county where it is well supported each season..Initially the weekly card session was combined with a weekly dance in both the then Ryan Hotel and later the Castle Heights with an interlude during which a Chicken Supper was served to both the card players and the dancers all for the modest sum of 10 shillings which even in those far of days was regarded as wonderful value for a night's entertainment., Those nights were recalled during a marathon card session in The Sweeney Arms last Thursday night when during an interlude in play poached salmon sandwiches were served up courtesy of the establishment and during which time valuable coaching on the finer points of card playing was imparted to one member of the group who made a return to the card table in recent times. A very limited number of cards are still available from committee members Dave Herlihy, Paddy O'Keeffe, Paddy B Lynch, and Chief Steward Johnny Batt Cronin.
