Spa GAA Club Notes: Monday June 3rd 2024
KILLARNEY CLUB 7S
The sun was shining once again for an epic weekend in Spa for the 3rd Annual Killarney Club 7s tournament. Huge crowds descended on Spa for 2 days of football, food, fun and lots of live music. The 7-a-side tournament was hotly contested as 36 mens and ladies teams from both Ireland and abroad battled it out to win the 2024 Cup & Shield titles. The mens Cup Final was won by Dunshaughlin Royal Gaels, while the Shield Final was won by Confey GAA who defeated Kildimo/Pallaskenry GAA on penalties. In the Ladies competition, the Cup Final was won by Clonakilty LGFA who defeated Castlehaven LGFA while the Shield Final was a local derby as Legion LGFA defeated the Spa Ladies. Well done to all the referees, officials and all the clubs that travelled to Spa this weekend and took part in 7s football tournament.
Off the pitches, the kids play area was full all weekend with plenty of fun for the younger groups, the food court was busy for the full 2 days while the Heineken Tent was rocking all weekend with live music over the 2 days with acts like Super Céilí, Ruaile Buaile and Chasing Abbey.
Congratulations to everyone who made this another hugely successful and enjoyable weekend yet again. Credit to the brilliant committee who have spent months putting plans in place, and to all the volunteers who helped out this weekend and without whom the event could not happen, and of course to all our sponsors, neighbours and local community who helped make it another incredible weekend in Spa.

CREDIT UNION CO LEAGUE ROUND 9 SPA V RATHMORE
Spa and Rathmore met in a sunny Fitzgerald Stadium on Friday evening for Round 9 of the Credit Union Co League, with Rathmore edging out a two-point victory on the night. It was a game with plenty of goal chances for both sides and, for most of the last quarter, it looked like the teams might share the spoils, but Rathmore finished well to take the win. Final score Spa 0-13 Rathmore 2-9.
Well done to our team and management and wishing all our injured players a speedy recovery. Spa play Kilcummin this weekend in the penultimate round.
SPA U12 GIRLS
Spa U12 ladies showed great improvement again last week against Legion in our second round of games. Well done to all the girls who played great football.
SPA GAELIC MOTHERS & OTHERS
Spa Gaelic 4 Mothers & Others had their first game in Dr Crokes last week and there were great skills shown on the pitch. Coach Kieran McCarthy was delighted with the display and we had 25 players togged out on the night. It was a tough game well matched and we were delighted to have our first match under our belt! Well done to all the ladies and massive thank you to Dr. Crokes Gaelic4Mothers&Others for the warm welcome and the refreshments and chat after, we look forward to battling again.

KERRY TEAMS
Well done to Dara Moynihan and Kerry GAA team & management on their win over Meath on Sunday afternoon in Rd2 of the GAA Group Championship stages. Kerry play Louth next (neutral venue TBC) on the weekend of June 15th / 16th.
Good luck to the Kerry minor team & management, especially Joey McCarthy & Niall O’Mahony, in the All Ireland Minor Tier 1 quarter-final against Roscommon this Saturday June 8th (6.30pm in Cusack Park, Ennis).
Best of luck to the Kerry Ladies team & management in Rd1 of the TG4 LGFA Group Stages this Sunday June 9th against Donegal (1.05pm in Ballybofey).
