Spa welcomed near neighbours Dr Crokes to Spa @ 14.00 today for round 10 of the Credit Union SFL Division 1. Languishing in the bottom third of the division before throw in meant a win and a much needed 2 points was critical for our survival in Division 1.

Crokes opened the scoring within the first minute with a point from corner forward Mikey Casey.

Mike Foley of Spa broke through the lines in the 4th minute with a fine point to level the score.

The next three scores a point in the 5th minute, a two pointer in the 10th both David Shaw and a point by Chris Brady in the 11thminute gave the black and amber a lead of 5 points to 1.

A point by Cian Tobin (Free) in the 12th minute was following by a point from play from Evan Cronin. The score now in the 18th minute Dr Crokes 0-5 points to Spa 0-3.

For the remainder of the first half, up stepped David Shaw for Dr Crokes with 2 two pointers either side of a Black Card for Spa’s Daragh Brosnan on 21 mins.

A point from play from the impressive David Shaw on 29 mins gave Dr Crokes a lead of 0-10 to Spa’s 0-3 just before the break.

A free for Spa on the 30 min mark was brilliantly converted by Gary Vaughan (off the ground) to earn Spa 2 points and the sides went in at Half-Time Dr Crokes 0-10 to Spa 0-5.

Dr Crokes started brightly in the second half with both David Shaw and Michael Casey scoring a point each, (Shaw from a free & Casey from play).

With Spa trailing now by 7 points on 34 mins, things were looking ominous, however up stepped David Spillane with a timely goal and reduce the margin to Dr Crokes 0-12 to Spa 1-05.

Dr Crokes responded well with 3 points in succession Mikey Casey (Play) David Shaw (Free) & Liam Randles (Play) leaving the scoreline Dr Crokes 0-15 to Spa 1-05 on 42 mins.

Following this, Spa responded with our best spell of the match, Cian Tobin with 2 points from frees on 44 & 50 mins followed by a goal from Niall Mc Carthy on 51 mins, a point from play from Evan Cronin on 52 mins & another point from play by Joey McCarthy to level the scoreline Dr Crokes 0-15 to Spa 2-09 on 55 mins.

Cian Murphy put over a two pointer on 56 mins only for this to be cancelled out by Shane Murphy for Dr Crokes on 58mins again leaving the sides level coming up to full time.

The final two scores of the game came from the boots of Evan Cronin & Gary Vaughan giving Spa a vital win on a scoreline of Spa 2-13, Dr Crokes 0-17.
