Spa travelled to Fossa this Monday evening in the Credit Union Donal Curtin Cup Division 3 Semi Final. It was a big ask for Spa as we were missing 7 of our starting panel from when these two teams last met in the group stages due to injuries and holidays but what a performance this panel of ladies showed this evening.
Straight away Amy Reidy got Spa on the scoreboard with a great opening goal and Saoirse Kelly followed that immediately with a fine point. Fossa then started to answer with some fine points themselves and eventually levelled the score before Fossa finished the first half a point ahead, 0-6 to 1-02.
The second half saw the tight contest continue with point for point throughout the remainder of the match. Fossa had a lot of wides but Spa missed chances as well between hitting the posts, crossbar and some close wides. Fossa just held out with a very narrow win of one point with the final score of 0-10 to 1-06 to Fossa but it was a brilliant, gutsy and very spirited performance from Spa, a team that are establishing a very high standard for ladies football in the club. Spa’s next game is in two weeks time when we travel away to Austin Stacks for the opening game of the Corrib Oil Senior Club League on Monday 7th @ 7:30.
