Our u14s got the better of Kilcummin in an excellent game of football on Tuesday evening played in Spa.
Spa started brightly with some early goal chances but Kilcummin survived and managed to kick the opening three points of the contest. Eric Corcoran goaled to restore parity before a James Brosnan free nudged us in front. Kilcummin hit a purple patch from the 10th minute, and 2 Max Moynihan goals saw them take control of proceedings. A second Eric goal from a tight angle after good build up play kept us in touch but it was Kilcummin who led at the break, 2-6 to 2-3.
Spa started the second half strong, and 4 quick scores, including an Aidan Hickey 2 pointer saw us retake the lead. The sides exchanged points for the next 5 minutes to see Kilcummin lead 2-9 to 2-8 before a crucial two minute period which saw Jack Glesson slot home a well taken goal after a good team move, and a kickout win saw Eric in for our 4th goal with an emphatic finish. Spa were getting control now, with Cian Donoghue and Maks Wesolowski powerful in midfield, Conor O'Leary and Keenan McCarthy winning crucial ball in the half back line and good options up front in the form of Nathan Jordan and Jack Kissane to kick to. The fifth goal arrived to give us some breathing room, but Kilcummin responded to kick 3 good scores to stay in the hunt right to the end but Spa did enough to hold out in the final minutes, aided by some heroic defending from Jack O'Leary and Eoin Brosnan. It finished 5-12 to 2-14.
Thanks to Kilcummin for a very sporting game and to the ref Thomas Harold on the evening.
Spa now have 2 wins and a draw in Division 1a and have have one more league game to play away against Dr Crokes before a semi final.
Our u14 development team play Firies away this Sunday at 1pm in East Kerry League Div 4 round 4.
