The Spa Senior Ladies opened their Bon Secours Junior A Championship campaign this morning when they travelled to Ballymacelligott.
It was a very warm day with a strong wind going down the length of the pitch. Spa won the toss and chose to play with the wind. Ballymacelligott opened the score line but Spa quickly followed with a point from a well taken free by  Saoirse Kelly who captained Spa in place of the injured Ciara Moynihan. This score seem to settle Spa and they took full advantage of the wind at their backs and finished the first half in the lead with a score of 1-05 to 0-02 thanks to a excellent goal from Ciara O’Sullivan in the 19th minute. Ballymacelligott had their chances too but hit 7 wides in the first half.
The second half was the same old cliche of “a game of two halves” as Ballymacelligott came out of the dressing rooms on a mission and took some lovely scores while also keeping Spa scoreless until the 51st minute (a free by Saoirse Kelly), but Ballymac continued to play lovely fast attacking football and their subs had a strong impact in the game especially Cora Savage. Lottie Maher coming off injured early in the second half was a blow for Spa and players tired a little in the hot weather towards the end but all in all it was a very strong display from Spa against an excellent Ballymacelligott side. The final score was 1-11 to 1-07 to Ballymacelligott. Spa will next play Laune Rangers on Sunday 7th September at home in Spa at 12 noon.
