The Bon Secour Junior A Ladies Championship Quarter Final took place in Spa, Killarney today when Spa played Inbhear Scéine Gaels (ISG).

Spa won the toss and decided to play with the breeze which wasn’t very strong. Spa immediately went on the attack after winning the throw in and were rewarded with a free after just 3 minutes into the game which was nicely put over the bar by Saoirse Kelly. Emma O’Sullivan won some great ball for ISG and was very unlucky to put two frees wide in the first 15 minutes. Spa dominated the first quarter scoring 1-03 with no answer until ISG’s Michelle O’Sullivan was tripped by Meghann Cronin and awarded a free. Alice Granville for ISG slotted it between the posts but it was to be ISG’s only score of the half which ended with a score line of 2-05 to 0-01 to Spa

The second half saw the skies open and the wind become very strong but was now at the backs of the ISG players yet Spa still started the stronger with a couple of wides from Spa before Saoirse Kelly added to the score with a fine point. Emma O’Sullivan did Trojan work and often had to drop back to gather ball but nearly every attack by ISG was turned over by Spa’s relentless backs who yet again put in an amazing shift this week.

This  ISG side are a very young side and showed signs of huge potential today despite the horrible weather conditions but Spa were just too strong for them but no doubt ISG will be a team to watch out for in the future.

The final score was 3-13 to 0-01 to Spa who will now play Cromane in the Junior A Semi Final in two weeks time, venue tbc.
