Spa GAA was proud to present its most prestigious honour, the Lifetime Achievement Award, to Michael Cronin at our recent Awards Night — a recognition that was warmly and enthusiastically received by all in attendance.
Michael’s record of dedication and service to Spa GAA is truly exceptional. At just 17 years of age, he was appointed Registrar of the Senior Club, and in 1975 he took on the role of Secretary. Even at such a young age, Michael demonstrated the commitment, loyalty and leadership that would go on to define decades of service to the club.
Recognising the need for additional support during the early years of Bord na nÓg, Michael stepped in as Secretary, and later Chairman, at underage level. Anyone who visits Spa on a Saturday morning can clearly see how vital and successful the Bord — now Coiste na nÓg — has become, a testament to the foundations laid during those formative years.
From 1996 onwards, Michael served a combined 13 years as Chairman of Spa GAA, across two separate terms, continuing right up to 2024. Alongside this, he has been a long-standing and dedicated member of the Field Committee, a role he continues to fulfil to this day.
Michael’s leadership and hands-on involvement have left a lasting legacy throughout the club. Spa GAA was the second club in the county to install floodlighting, and the continued development and upkeep of our facilities — including dressing rooms, sports hall, gymnasium, meeting rooms, kitchen, walking track and tarmacadam car park — are a source of immense pride for the entire club.
No recognition of Michael’s contribution would be complete without acknowledging the support of his family. We extend our sincere thanks to his wife Geraldine, whose support over the years has been invaluable, and to their children Aoife, Niamh, Caoimhe and Eimear.
Go raibh míle maith agat, Michael, as ucht a rinne tú dúinn.
Spa GAA is immensely grateful for your lifelong service.
