Spa travelled to Killarney Legion today in Round 1 of the McCarthy Insurance Group Senior Men’s County League Division 1.
Legion opening the scoring with a point from Eoin O’Sullivan. Spa responded with their first score of the game, a 2 pointer from Cian Murphy on 5 minutes. Both teams traded scores over the next 15 minutes, Ryan O’Grady with one & Finbar Murphy with two points for Legion. Spa scorers were the impressive Luke O’Neill x2, Mike Foley and Niall McCarthy.
Spa were beginning to gain dominance at this stage, a 2 pointer from Cian Murphy, followed by a point from Evan Cronin left the scoreline Spa 0-9, Legion 0-5 with 27 minutes gone. Conditions were very bad a times, with a strong cross field wind which probably favoured Spa in the first half. A point by Ryan O’Grady on 32 mins saw the Half Time Score, Spa 0-9, Legion 0-6.
Legion started the 2nd half with a 2 pointer from Finbar Murphy. Mike Foley pointed for Spa but another 2 pointer from Ryan O’Grady saw Legion draw level 10 points apiece on the 34th minute. Spa responded with a great 10 minute spell with a point from Cian Murphy either side of a point by Gary Vaughan to extend the lead by 3 points Spa 0-13, Legion 0-10 in the 44th minute.
Legion began to grow more into the game at this point & the decisive score of the game came in the 52nd minute, a goal by Ryan O’Grady following two unanswered points by Legion. The score now Legion 1-12, Spa 0-13.
Rian O’Neill responded with a point for Spa in the 53rd minute, but points for Legion from Ryan O’Grady, Josh Bowler & Will Shine saw Legion take the points on a final scoreline Legion 1-16, Spa 0-15.
