In a wet night in Kenmare, Spa got off to winning start in the Boys U16s East Kerry League.
After a workmanlike start against the breeze, Spa took an early led through an Eric Corcoran free.
Spa dominated possession but were struggling to get scores against the elements, whereas Kenmare found it easier to register scores at the other end. Kenmare went into a 5 point to 1 lead after 20 minutes.
Spa got the next score from play by Eric Corcoran but Kenmare got 1-3 before the break to lead 1-8 to 0-2.
The second half began with a Kenmare point but after this Spa started to dominate around the middle and got a superb team goal finished by James Marshall.
Spa got the next 3 points followed by another goal after a superb save from the Kenmare keeper after another great move which saw Aidan Hickeys shot saved.
A free from Spa equalised the game with 5 minutes remaining. A point from Kenmare put them one ahead but a great team move brought the equaliser by Liam Moynihan.
Spa won the resulting kick out and work it into Eric Corcoran who finished it to net to put 3 points in it and secure victory.
Spa worked extremely hard all night and collectively performed well under the conditions.
