Spa produced an excellent all-round display in windy conditions to secure a convincing home win over Annascaul/Castlegregory.
The visitors opened the scoring through their No. 8, but were dealt an early setback when their corner back was forced off injured. Spa responded quickly, with Ciara O’Sullivan making a strong run to set up Saoirse Kelly for the opening goal. Despite the challenging windy conditions, Spa settled well into the game, with their defence working tirelessly to turn over possession and limit scoring chances.
Further goals from Liadh Tobin and Ava Brosnan helped Spa take control, while points from play kept the scoreboard moving. Annascaul/Castlegregory stayed in touch with a goal and points from their No. 8, but Spa held a solid lead at the break, 3-3 to 1-3.
With the advantage of the wind in the second half, Spa pushed on. Saoirse Kelly added a number of well-taken points, while Ava Brosnan impressed with her work rate and finishing, adding further scores. Ciara O’Sullivan struck for another excellent goal, and Spa continued to apply pressure with strong teamwork and high intensity throughout.
Spa’s defence remained solid, working hard to break up attacks and support the transition forward, while their forwards were clinical in front of goal. Spa’s substitutes also proved a great asset in the second half, making a strong impact when introduced. A late goal and point from Ava Brosnan capped off a strong performance and sealed the win.
Annascaul/Castlegregory battled hard throughout the game and never gave up. Overall, this was a deserved win for Spa, built on hard work, teamwork and excellent finishing across the pitch.
