McCarthy Insurance Group Senior County League Division 1 – Round 5
Coming off the back of our first county league win last weekend; expectations were raised as we made the short trip to Lewis Road in Round 5.
Within 6 minutes of the throw in, those expectations were quickly being reevaluated as Crokes led 1-04 to Spa 0-1.
Spa began to settle better after this, with 4 unanswered points one from Shane Cronin & Cian Murphy and 2 from Evan Cronin by the 12th minute. (1-04 to 0-5)
Over the next 10 minutes Crokes extended their lead by 5 points 1-09 to Spa 0-7 with 2 two pointers to Spa’s two scores one each from Mike Foley & Evan Cronin.
On the 27th minute Evan Cronin struck a crucial first half goal to narrow the margin to 2 points, however Crokes immediately responded with a point to leave the HT Score Dr Crokes 1-10 Spa 1-07.
The second half started slowly with the first score coming in the 37th minute for Crokes, Spa immediately responded with a point of our own via Gary Vaughan.
A crucial period of the game came next, David Spillane cut through on the 41st minute with a well taken goal & this was followed up by a two pointer from Cian Murphy, Spa taking the lead in the match for the first time on a scoreline Crokes 1-11 Spa 2-10.
Dr Crokes responded with 3 unanswered points before Cian Murphy pointed for Spa to tie the scores Crokes 1-14 Spa 2-11 heading into the final 10 minutes.
Dr Crokes cheered on by the home support took the lead again in the 51st minute but the winning of the game for Spa came in the 56th minute; a point by Mike Foley quickly followed by a goal to the roof of the net giving Spa 3 points to spare with as many minutes left on the clock.
Cian Murphy pointed in the 60th minute to put the game beyond the reach of Dr Crokes with the last score of the game coming for Crokes in the 62nd minute.
The final scoreline Dr Crokes 1-16 Spa 3-13.
