Spa Minor Ladies fell just short in a thrilling Division 7 County League Final away to Ballymac.

The game got off to a fantastic start, with Spa showing great determination from the throw-in. Spa made an early impact on the scoreboard, netting two excellent goals within the opening minutes and setting the tone for what looked like a very promising performance.
However, Ballymac began to find their rhythm as the first half progressed. With the wind in their favour, they capitalised on their opportunities and gradually built momentum, pushing ahead and establishing a strong lead by half-time.
After the break, Spa showed tremendous heart and work rate. The girls battled hard and began to chip away at Ballymac’s lead, narrowing the gap to just five points. A crucial moment came when Spa were awarded a penalty that could have dramatically changed the course of the game. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be on the night, and the chance went begging.
In the end, it was a game that could have gone either way. Ballymac were perhaps just a little hungrier and more clinical when their chances came, which ultimately made the difference.
For Spa, this being the team’s very first season at minor level makes the achievement all the more remarkable. The girls have shown incredible commitment, skill, and spirit throughout the season, and everyone involved with the club is immensely proud of them.
The team celebrated their fantastic season together afterwards with some well-deserved pizza, rounding off a memorable evening.
We would also like to wish our excellent minor Niamh Daly the very best of luck as she begins her Leaving Certificate exams soon, and the same to all the girls who will be sitting their Junior Certificate. Go n-eirí libh!
