Spa recorded their opening win of the County U16 League with an impressive performance against Duagh on a sun-drenched Thursday evening in Spa.
Duagh opened the scoring, but Spa quickly found their rhythm. Liam Moynihan struck for an early goal and added a point, while further scores from Adam Moynihan and Torin Lyne helped Spa hit 1-4 without reply. Duagh responded with a strong spell of their own, but captain Adam Moynihan steadied the home side with a well-taken goal to leave Spa leading 2-5 to 1-5 at the interval.
The second half belonged entirely to Spa. Anchored by an outstanding defensive display from Eoin Brosnan and Brendan McHugh, the hosts conceded just a single point after the break while producing some scintillating attacking football. Liam Moynihan continued his excellent first-half form, finishing with an impressive personal tally. James Marshall, Adam Moynihan, Jack Gleeson, Sam O'Shea and Aidan Hickey all kept the scoreboard ticking over as Spa's work rate and teamwork shone throughout the pitch.
A special mention goes to Josh Buckley, who impressed on his U16 debut in goal. The young goalkeeper displayed an excellent range of skills and looked assured throughout, capping a memorable first outing.
It was a superb all-round team performance from Spa as they ran out convincing 4-14 to 1-6 winners.
