Spa's U14 footballers enjoyed a memorable day on Saturday as they claimed the Eoin Moynihan/Maurice Mottie Memorial Tournament title in Glenflesk with a series of outstanding performances.

Played in glorious sunshine, Spa made the perfect start to the tournament with an impressive victory over the hosts, Glenflesk, scoring 3-4 in the opening 10-minute contest. The momentum continued with further group stage wins over Ballyvourney (1-2 to 0-1) and BK Plunketts (2-5 to 0-1), ensuring Spa finished top of their group and secured a place in the Cup semi-final.

A tough encounter awaited in the last four against Aghinagh. Despite playing with the aid of the wind in the opening half, Spa found themselves trailing 0-3 to 0-0 at the break. The response after half-time was outstanding. An early goal brought the sides level before a well-taken point edged Spa in front. Excellent work rate, determination and disciplined defending saw the lads hold on for a deserved victory and book their place in the final against a strong Carbery Rangers side.

Spa saved one of their best performances for the decider. From the throw-in they controlled proceedings and, against a talented and physical Carbery Rangers outfit, produced an excellent display to emerge worthy champions on a scoreline of 1-3 to 0-2.

Captain Cian O'Donoghue proudly accepted the Eoin Moynihan/Maurice Mottie Memorial Trophy on behalf of the team, while also receiving the Player of the Tournament award in recognition of his outstanding displays throughout the day.

Spa GAA extends its sincere thanks to Glenflesk for the invitation and for hosting such a fantastic tournament. Congratulations to everyone involved in organising a superb event, and well done to our players and management on a brilliant achievement.
