Spa concluded their U16 County League campaign on Thursday evening in Spa with a comprehensive victory over near neighbours Glenflesk.
The home side made a blistering start, with full-forward Mark Corkery finding the net early before Liam Moynihan quickly added a second goal. Further majors from Mark Corkery and team captain Adam Moynihan capped an outstanding opening half for Spa. Glenflesk, to their credit, stayed in touch with a number of excellent two-point scores, leaving the halftime score at 4-7 to 1-10.
Spa resumed the second half with the same intensity and never looked back. Goals from Liam Moynihan and James Marshall put the result beyond doubt, while a wide spread of point scorers reflected an excellent all-round attacking display. Defensively, Spa remained resolute throughout, with Conor O'Donoghue, Jack O'Leary and Jack Gleeson producing particularly impressive performances. At midfield, Sam O'Shea and Adam Moynihan worked tirelessly to provide the platform for victory, while the entire forward line clicked into top gear.
The only sour note on an otherwise excellent evening came when Brendan McHugh, who had been outstanding throughout and dominated the kick-outs, suffered what appears to be a serious injury. Everyone in Spa GAA wishes Brendan a full and speedy recovery.
Spa finished deserved winners on a scoreline of 6-17 to 1-14.
