Spa Senior Ladies began their Premier Junior Championship campaign at home to Legion on Sunday in what proved to be a hard-fought battle.
A very low-scoring first half reflected the intensity of the battle, with both sides working tirelessly to gain the upper hand. Legion struck for a crucial goal before the break, leaving Spa facing a challenge heading into the second half.
To their credit, the Spa girls responded strongly after half time with periods of great football. A tremendous battle was fought in midfield, with Ciara O Sullivan and Mairead Bennett leading the charge and putting in outstanding performances throughout.
Although Spa were unable to find the back of the Legion net, they showed great determination and composure to convert hard-earned frees by Saoirse Kelly and Meghann Cronin, keeping the scoreboard ticking.
