Taoiseach Micheál Martin has annouced a number of new significant restrictions to help prevent the spread of Covid-19. These restrictions come into effect immediately.

- All sporting events must take place behind closed doors

- Indoor gatherings are limited to 6 people, except for shops and restaurants

- Outdoor gatherings are limited to 15 people

- Restaurants and cafes are to remain open with closing times of 11.30.

- Advises businesses that employees should work from home until September 13th

- Public transport should be avoided when possible

- Over 70s are asked to limit interactions to a small network, avoid public transport and to shop during designated hours
