1979 - A Historic Year for the Spa Club with the opening of the club's first playing pitch

1979 was a historic year for the Spa club with the opening of the playing pitch and dressing rooms on May 27th 1979. Chairman of the Kerry County Board, Frank King, officially opened the grounds, the first time Spa would have their own playing pitch.

The opening ceremony was followed by a tournament game between two great rivals - Cork and Kerry - with Kerry winning out by 3-10 to 2-10. The Cullen Pipe Band also perfomed on the day and our Spa U12 team played Arklow U12s in a curtain raiser.
