John O’Donoghue, a primary school teacher from Muckross, has been selected as councillor Michael Gleeson’s replacement on Kerry County Council.

Last month the Kerry Independent Alliance councillor announced that he was to retire from politics after almost 40 years in public life.

37-year-old John O’Donoghue has been chairman of the Kerry Independent Alliance for the last two years and is a nephew of Mr Gleeson.

He teaches at Loughquittane National School and is very involved with Spa GAA club, where he is a delegate to the county board.
