U-21 County Championship

Spa 2-7 Kenmare District 1-11

Kenmare District overcame Spa by the narrowest of margins as the home side will rue a number of missed opportunities in the opening half. Kenmare started well. they took a 0-5 to 0-0 lead in the opening quarter. Spa replied immediately with David Spillane's goal shot first and then Niall McCarthy's shot both blocked by the Kenmare keeper Ray O'Shea. It was a full 28 minutes before Spa had a point on the board, their only score of the opening half - a long high ball from Evan Cronin. At half time Kenmare District were leading 0-5 to 0-1.Spa had the best possible start to the second half with three points in quick succession by Evan Cronin before Niall McCarthy won the ball outfield and played to Evan Cronin who passed to Corey Doyle and the ball rattled the net. Another quick point from Evan Cronin and Spa now led 1-5 to 0-5 just five minutes into the half. Kenmare replied with a point for Kenmare after his first attempt was stopped by goalie David Carroll. Carroll had a second great block moments later before Kerry Junior team-mates Evan Cronin and Killian Spillane swapped further points. Spa suddenly had the momentum again and this time it was David Spillane who hit the back of the net for Spa. Both sides had missed opportunities before a scramble in the Spa goalmouth led to an own-goal and levelled the game again, with just five minutes left on the clock. Two superb points from Killian Spillane edged Kenmare District ahead as a late free from Evan Cronin was not enough, and with a one point win it is Kenmare District who go through to the semi-finals.Spa Team: David Carroll, Conor Stack, Eoghan Cronin, Eoin Fitzgerald, Aydan Mulvaney, Shane Cronin, Eric O'Donoghue, Michael McCarthy, Ciaram Spillane, Mikey Moynihan, David Spillane (1-0), Corey Doyle (1-0), David Moynihan, Evan Cronin (0-7), Niall McCarthy.Subs: Darren O'Connor.

Minors

Spa minors played Fossa away in an enthralling first round game in the East Kerry League. From the off Spa’s defence was excellently marshalled by Jordan Leahy, Conor Stack and Tomas Fleming, breaking up countless Fossa attacks. Our midfield dynamo Darragh O’Leary was supplying fantastic ball into our forwards where Ruairi O’Keeffe was causing havoc getting a couple of poachers goals in the process. Holding the slimmest of leads at half time Fossa took control in the second half. However the Spa boys kept their heads and fought back. The never say die attitude of the whole team in adversity must be applauded where they turned the tide and ran out worthy 4 point winners on the night. We wish Ryan Kelliher  a speedy recovery after receiving a knock on the night.

Senior Co League

Spa 2-14 Waterville 1-8.
Great win for seniors in Waterville. A great team effort to place us 2nd place in Division 2 table.
