U12 BOYS
Our U12 Boys had mixed fortunes against neighbours Kilcummin on Sunday evening with the A team defeated on the night and the B team winning their game.
U8 & U10 GIRLS
Our u8 and U10 girls had a very busy week with fun games. Last Tuesday Miltown came to Spa. Saturday Morning our u10s played Listry. On Sunday we travelled to Fossa with our both teams to play in fun blitz. The girls are improving their skills every outing and getting plenty of match practice. Thanks to all the clubs involved, parents and coaches.
BACK TO SCHOOL
With the schools re-opening over these couple of weeks we wish the very best of luck to all pupils, teachers and parents as the new school year begins!
SPA CLUB LOTTO HAS RETURNED
The Spa lotto retuns on August 31st and the jackpot is at €5,600. Tickets are available ONLINE here through spagaa.com or tickets will be on sale at the clubhouse during underage training. The lotto generates important revenue to help run the club and maintain the club grounds and is our only source of fundraising at the moment. We are asking people to please support our club lotto during this difficult time. Many thanks, and we appreciate all support!
CO CHAMPIONSHIP
Congratulations to East Kerry on their victory over St Kierans in the Co Championship quarter final at the weekend, especially all our Spa members involved with the team & management. They now go through to the semi-finals on Sept 12th/13th. Fixture details TBC. Draw for the semi-finals to take place on Terrace Talk on Monday night.
SPA MERCHANDISE SHOP
Spa Merchandise Shop is open every Saturday morning from 10am – 11am. Any enquiries contact Mathilda on 0876487356.
HEALTHY CLUBS AUTUMN REPORT
My last report was during Phase 2 of lockdown and thankfully since then our club has prepared and adapted under the new Covid-19 guidelines. However, this week’s update from our Government hasn’t looked too favourably on our organisation. This is particularly disappointing from an underage point of view.
It is nice to see our footballers of all ages back in action, and the shop open for Club merchandise.
While the new normal has its setbacks, the regular updates from Croke Park and County Healthy Clubs Chairman and Secretary have been beneficial in informing us on how to move forward and stay positive during these times.
While many events have had to be put on hold until safer times, it doesn’t mean our Phase 4 health club project is on hold …so keep thinking of events.
We have secured funding I applied for to allow our club to become a non-smoking area and signage will hopefully be up before the end of August. So, from September on, we will be a non-smoking club.
Other upcoming events (so far) include the GAA National Inclusion Fitness Day on September 23rd. This is part of the European Week of Sport.
The Mental Health and Wellbeing Fest is scheduled for October and we will keep you updated on social and local media on that.
On a more sombre note, I would like to thank the Club, The East Kerry Board, and The Kerry County Health and Wellbeing committee for their support to me and my family during the difficult days when my late father, Cornelius O Keeffe R.I.P. passed away. Many of you were part of a social distancing Guard of Honour and many of you have shown great kindness in your messages of condolence. These are very much treasured and appreciated by us as a family.
Finally I will say that photos of days gone by were of great interest, especially during lockdown. It meant we had more time to study these pictures. Thanks to all who made this possible especially Anne Holland who gives so much of her time to keeping the achieves stocked for future generations and to Deirdre O Sullivan Darcy for being the glue that keeps us all connected.
Many of you may be surprised to learn that we had some very talented camogie teams in the ‘80s. I was delighted to see many of you were on the ball with the photo below. I don’t have everyone’s married name so ladies will be named as they were back then when they were –young, fit, free, and single!!
So until next time, Stay Safe, Wash your Hands Wear your Masks and Take Care of One Another.
