Club Notes (February 28th 2022)

SPA KILLARNEY CLUB 7S
Spa GAA in association with Rockshore are delighted to launch the inaugural Killarney Club 7s - a 7-A-Side Gaelic Football Tournament where men & women from the four corners of the country will compete against each other on Sat 4th & Sun 5th June at the Spa GAA Club grounds in Tullig, Killarney.

Matches will be played across two top class pitches, which can be easily viewed from all areas of the grounds. Fully stocked bars and some top-class entertainment will be on offer in the Rockshore Tent, whilst also providing the perfect vantage point to take in all the drama the football is sure to throw up!

2022 CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
The draw for the 2022 club championships took place last Wednesday evening. In the senior club championship, there are 2 groups – Spa are in Group 1 with Dingle, Kenmare Shamrocks and Na Gaeil while Group 2 is Dr Crokes, Austin Stacks, Kerins O’Rahillys and Templenoe.

The first round is due to be played at the end of July with Spa set to play Dingle (neutral venue) in the first game. Details to follow closer to the time.

 

KERRY U20
Well done to Niall O’Mahony and the Kerry U20 team and management on their second win in the John Kerins Cup last weekend, defeating Galway by 0-13 to 0-6. They now go through to the play-offs, fixture details TBC.

HOGAN CUP SCHOOLS FINALS
Well done to Donagh Fahy, Dr Gary Stack and the St Brendan’s Killarney team and management on their win over Derry school St Marys of Magherafelt last Saturday to make it through to the Hogan Cup All Ireland Final on March 17th. They will play Naas CBS in the Final. Fixture details TBC. 

KERRY LADIES
Well done to Cassandra Buckley and the Kerry Ladies team & management on their National League Rd2 win over Clare on Sunday afternoon by 1-13 to 0-7. They play Laois in Rd3 next Sunday March 6th (2pm in Fitzgerald Stadium).

 

EAST KERRY SENIOR LEAGUE
Spa travelled to Direen last Wednesday night to play Legion in Rd3 of the East Kerry Superleague. Played under lights, Legion had the wind in the opening half and led by 0-6 to 0-5 at half time, the Spa points from Michael Foley and Cian Tobin (4).

Spa took the lead early in the second half and with scores from Niall McCarthy, Michael Foley (2) and Cian Murphy we were 0-9 to 0-6 ahead at the end of the third quarter. Two final scores from Cian Murphy made it Spa 0-12 to Legion 0-8 at the final whistle.

SPA LOTTO
Spa lotto results 21/02/2022: Numbers drawn 1, 6, 15, 24. No winner and €50 Lucky Dips to Conor Brosnan, JD O’Sullivan, Sean Hickey and Jack & Zara O’Leary.

SPA GAA ACADEMY
Our Spa GAA Academy returned last Saturday February 26th and continues every Saturday morning from 10am - 11am for girls and boys from u5 to u9. In Spa we cater for independent 3 year olds and upwards, and membership is FREE for u5s and u6s.

We would like to extend a warm welcome to any girls or boys from the Killarney area who would like to join Spa GAA, just come along any Saturday morning.

2022 REGISTRATION IS OPEN 
Membership for 2022 is open and can be completed online on spagaa.com (link on right hand side of the site) or the registrars (Gerard Mangan & Sean O’Sullivan) will be in Spa over the next couple of Wednesdays from 7-8pm.   

SPA ANNUAL AWARDS NIGHT
Spa Annual Awards Night will take place at the Heights Hotel Killarney on Saturday March 26th. It will be a Dinner Dance with music from SuperCéilí. Tickets will be on sale at the clubhouse this Wednesday March 2nd between 7 – 8pm or are available from committee members Andrew Garnett, Anne Holland, Adrian O'Sullivan, Ivor Flynn, Mathilda Cronin and Triona Mangan.

The award recipients and nominees for this year’s event have been announced and congratulations to all –

NATIONAL LEAGUE 
Congratulations to Dan O’Donoghue, Dara Moynihan, Arthur Fitzgerald and the Kerry team & management on their National League Rd4 win over Monaghan last weekend. They play Mayo in the next round on Saturday March 12th (7.30pm in Austin Stack Park) .

 

SPA GAA WALKING TRACK
While the Ireland Lights Up GAA walks concluded last Wednesday, the Spa GAA walking path remains open to members of the community to come together to walk & talk in a safe environment as we leave the dark evenings of winter **NO DOGS ALLOWED**   

 

CO MINOR LEAGUES
Spa had a BYE last Saturday in Rd1 of the Co Minor Leagues and will play Rathmore in Rd2 on Saturday March 12th (4pm in Spa).
