U12 GIRLS
Round 1 Div4 U-12 Girls County league commenced last Wednesday 11th May with an away trip to Na Gael. It was a dry evening, ideal conditions with both sets of players playing some lovely football. We took an early lead which we never really relinquished but credit to Na Gael they stay with us the whole way until last quarter whereby we just pulled away a small bit. We had seven different scorers on the night which was fantastic to see and we came away with the points on a scoreline of Spa 3-10 Na Gael 2-06.

Round 2 was played out Wednesday night 18th May in Spa vs Duagh in totally contrasting conditions. Whilst the pitch itself was in immaculate condition, thundery rain for the best part of the afternoon meant both teams had to deal with a fast and slippery surface. Both teams adapted well to conditions and there was only a “kick of the ball” in it at half time, Spa leading on a Scoreline of 1-02 to 0-02. A favourable breeze in the second half enabled our girls to get on top who outscored our opponents 1-07 to 0-05 to finish out winners on the night Spa 2-09 Duagh 0-07.

Next fixture next Wednesday 25th May away to John Mitchels.

U15 CO LEAGUE DIVISION 2 SHIELD FINAL
Our U15’s made the trip to Keel for the Division 2 Shield final on a wet and windy Wednesday evening. The conditions made it a difficult evening for football and hence the match played out in this fashion. The first half saw spa start the brighter but squandered numerous scoring opportunities in the squally conditions… as the half wore on Firies came into the game and at HT the score read Firies 0-4 Spa 0-3.

Early in the second half Spa got back into the lead and never really looked back. We were very unfortunate to have a player red carded half way through the half but the lads defended well and hit Firies for a goal with 10 mins to go.

The game was played in a good spirit with many players playing against some of their friends. In the end spa won out on a score line of Spa 1-6 to Firies 0-4. Captain Fionn Daly accepted the trophy on behalf of the squad.

Thanks to Firies for a sporting game and to all the parents from both sides for braving the conditions.
