O’DONOGHUE CUP QUARTER FINAL SPA V FOSSA
Spa welcomed Fossa on Saturday evening for the 2020 O’Donoghue Cup East Kerry championship quarter final. We won out well on the night and now join Glenflesk and Dr Crokes in the semi-final draw, with the last team through to be decided next week when Rathmore play the winners of Kenmare/Listry.
Points from Dan O’Donoghue, Mike Foley and Evan Cronin had Spa on the board before Niall McCarthy was brought down in the square at the end of the first quarter, Cian Tobin slotting home the penalty to give Spa a 1-3 to no score advantage by the first water break. David Clifford pointed for Fossa but it was quickly cancelled out with a long range effort from Shane Cronin. Evan Cronin (2) and Mike Foley swapped scores with David Clifford, Emmet O’Shea and Paddy Sheehan to make it 1-7 to 0-4 at half time.
On the restart, Mike Foley and David Clifford exchanged points again before Niall O’Mahony (2) and Ryan O’Carroll extended the Spa advantage. Fossa did get a shot on goal when Paudie Clifford dropped a long ball into the goalmouth but James Devane did well to block. Spa’s second goal came in the 45th minute when Dara Moynihan slipped past three defenders before rattling the Fossa net. Shane Cronin and Evan Cronin linked up for a second goal shot but the keeper did well to block, Thomas Cronin with a point shortly after to make it 2-12 to 0-5 by the second half water break. In the final quarter, Spa did have some more shots on goal but Fossa keeper Dan Cronin did well to keep them out. Two final points from David Clifford were cancelled out by Evan Cronin and Ryan O’Carroll to finish the game 2-14 to 0-7.
Well done to the team & management and East Kerry Chairman Johnny Brosnan presented the Aquila Club Man of the Match Award to centre-back Dan O’Donoghue after the game.
Wishing a speedy recovery to all our injured players.
