Co League Rd 4 Division 1A: Spa 2-11 Dingle 1-12

Spa welcomed Dingle on Saturday evening in the blistering sunshine in Rd4 of the Co League, and the game was in the melting pot right until the final whistle. As with Mitchels a couple of weeks ago, Spa left it very late to edge out the opposition, and it was only in the final few minutes they took the lead for the first time in the game.

Within seconds of the throw in George Durrant scored for the visitors, but Evan Cronin soon followed with a pointed free at the other end. Niall Geaney and Mikey Geaney quickly added two for Dingle, before a Mike Foley point punched over the crossbar made it 0-2 to 0-3 at the first half water break.

A brilliant high ball from Gary Vaughan split the posts to level the game, but a superb goal from Dingle's Conor Geaney in the 21st minute made it 0-3 to 1-3. Evan Cronin added another point for Spa and Dingle almost raised the green flag for a second time, but a square ball ruling meant the goal chance was disallowed. Mikey Geaney and Tadhg Browne added two more for the west Kerry side before Niall McCarthy buried the ball in the Dingle net right before the break. At the half time whistle, it was Spa 1-4 Dingle 1-5.

Conor Geaney extended that lead right from the throw in, and quickly followed with another, but they were soon cancelled out by two from Evan Cronin at the other end. Conor Geaney and Mike McCarthy swapped scores, and a Mike Foley point before the water break levelled the game at 1-8 apiece.

Dingle had the better start as the game resumed, and Dylan Geaney and Conor Geaney (2) soon had them three points to the good. Cian Tobin reduced the gap, but only momentarily, as Conor Geaney kicked his seventh point of the day to keep that three point difference.

Mike Foley added another score for Spa before Cian Tobin finished a great move to the back of the net in the 59th minute to edge Spa ahead for the first time in the game. Dingle will rue a couple of missed chances to equalise, but an injury time effort from Shane Cronin, punched over the bar, finished the game at Spa 2-11 Dingle 1-12.

Spa make the short journey to Lewis Road to play Dr Crokes in the final round on July 31st / August 1st.
