The East Kerry club team of 1971 were honoured last Sunday during the Kerry v Tyrone National League game in Fitzgerald Stadium.
That team won the inaugural All Ireland Club Championship in 1971 and the team, management and East Kerry officers that year included Spa members Donie O’Sullivan, Donie O’Leary, Michael Gleeson (captain), Denis Fenton, Pat Casey, Jim Gleeson, Sean O'Sullivan and Johnny Batt Cronin.
Organised by the East Kerry Board in conjunction with some of the players and Spa's Ger Galvin and John O'Leary, the group and their family members gathered at The Shire earlier in the day for a reunion before being transported by bus to Fitzgerald Stadium. They were welcomed out onto the playing field on Sunday during the half time break by East Kerry Board President Ger Galvin.
