Spa started their Junior Co League with a mix of youth and experience at home to Gneeveguilla on Friday night.

Gneeveguilla had the better opening half with Adam O'Leary scoring the only goal of the game at the end of the first quarter. Spa hit four first half points from Corey Doyle (3) and Hugh O'Donoghue but Gneeveguilla, with the goal and points from Evan Cronin (2), held a narrow lead at the break, Spa 0-4 Gneeveguilla 1-2.

Spa struggled to convert scores in the second half and after two Corey Doyle points and points from Gneeveguilla's Evan Cronin (2) and Aengus O'Leary (2), just a goal separated the sides going in to the final quarter at 0-6 to 1-6. Spa's Niall McCarthy kicked two late scores and Corey Doyle kicked his fifth of the day but Gneeveguilla ran out winners at the end with late scores from Evan Cronin (2), Conor Herlihy and Michael Brosnan.
