Spa GAA Club hosted a Coffee Morning in aid of the Irish Cancer Society last Saturday and the response from the local community was phenomenal. This is the first time the club have hosted an event like this, and on the day an incredible €2,500 was raised towards the Irish Cancer Society’s work in the southwest.

Elaine Moynihan approached the club with the idea a few weeks ago and put together a committee of Health & Wellbeing Officer Margaret Doyle, PRO Deirdre O'Sullivan Darcy and Yvonne Jordan to plan the event.

Unfortunately, there are so many homes affected by this, so the idea was to do something to give back to the wonderful staff and the centres that care for patients 24/7 during their treatment.

The club opened its doors to the community, and in addition to the Coffee Morning in the main hall, they also set up a children’s playroom and a TV room to make sure the visitors had a chance to watch the big rugby match too. A number of businesses in both the Kerry and Cork region got on board to sponsor the event and many people brought along some delicious home baking and treats on the morning.

Many thanks to our sponsors – Paddy & Noel’s Catering; Lee Strand; Kerry Green Homemade Jam; Tesco Killarney; Value Centre Killarney; Maggie’s Montessori; Artist Phil O’Grady; Salon B; Eccles Hotel, Glengarriff; West Cork Hotel, Skibbereen; Mike & Catherine Duggan; Crag Caves; Mills Inn Ballyvourney; MF Dineen & Co Ltd; Caraway Catering; O’Sullivan’s Bakery and Killarney Medical Centre.
