U16 East Kerry League Spa v Rathmore

On Monday 1st of April, Spa u-16 team opened their East Kerry League campaign away to Rathmore. Rathmore started brightly but Spa grew into the game, helped by very accurate kickouts by Jack O Sullivan in goal which helped to set up our attacks. Super defending by Josh Moore and Danny Coffee helped us stay in touch with a strong Rathmore side. With Rian O'Neill breaking up Rathmore attacks, and the midfield duo of Eoghan Mulvaney and Donagh Fahy setting up attacks, we were rewarded with a well taken goal by Roiri O'Connor. Spa trailed by 5 at the break.

In the second half, we brought it back to 3 points at one stage, through some excellent runs by Sean Hickey and great frees being scored by Eoghan Mulvaney. However, Rathmore continued to build momentum and with our boys getting tired, Rathmore got in for some easy goals and ran out winners on a scoreline of 7-10 to 1-8. Spa produced some great passages of play and hopefully we can improve further in our next game against Scart/Cordal at home next Monday.

U14 Co. League Spa v Glenflesk

Played in Spa in a bitterly cold night, Spa played with just fifteen players. Unfortunately, many on the injured list and sick bed. However, never say die attitude the boys played to the best of their ability and gave a sterling performance against a much fancied Glenflesk team.

First half, we gained loads of possession but very unlucky to hit the posts and slotting over to the right or left side of the goalposts. Luck was definitely not on our side. Aaron O'Connor pulled off some great saves. Our defence of Shane O'Sullivan, Kalvin O'Sullivan , Chris Healy kept the pressure on the Glenflesk forward line. Midfield of Oran Daly and Luke O'Neill  won great possession and worked the ball up to the forward line of Aidan Cronin, Emmet Spillane. Cian Russell, Stephen Wickham and David O'Sullivan. Not a great start to our county League but no doubt will gain valuable experience from this outing. Glenflesk were strong and deserved the win.

U12 Girls

The girls were busy this week playing  two games . First up was at home to Glenflesk. The girls played excellent in the first half scoring three goals. However, the opposition just had that more scoring power. Great skill and great team work but just couldn’t catch Glenflesk who ran out winners 5-14 to 3-0.

The following night they travelled to Legion in Direen. The weather conditions were terrible. Played against a strong wind in the first half and found it difficult to score. The girls never gave up though and lost out to the home side 5-12 to 1-4.
