U-14 Div 5 East Kerry Final
Spa played a physically stronger Scart/Cordal Team in Fitzgerald Stadium last Monday night. Even though Spa conceded a couple of early goals they never gave in. Riain O’Neill defended exceptionally well winning most of the ball going down the middle. He linked well with Ethan O’Neill who fed some great ball into Cian Murphy who in turn crashed a couple of great balls to the net. In the second half Eoghan Mulvany got onto some great ball and made some surging runs up the pitch finishing a fantastic ball to the oppositions net. However on the night a much stronger Scart/Cordal Team won well in the finish. However it was very reassuring to note that many of the Spa team will be under age again next year, whereby they’ll be a year older and stronger.

U-16 Co League

Spa U-16s took to the field away against Ardfert in a top of the table clash last Wednesday night. Spa were missing a number of starters but played courageously. Ardfert grabbed the initiative early on scoring a brace of goals. Sean Cahill in midfield got on the end on a great move to crash a ball to the Ardfert net to keep the boys in blue in contention. Some great defending by Alan O’Sullivan kept the game tight. The introduction of the two Cremin brother Oliver and Connie brought fresh impetus in the 2nd half. However as the game wore on Ardfert scored some important points and were worthy winners. Spa now play Beale at home next Wednesday night at 7pm in the County League Semi final.Team: Adam Kelly, Alan O’Sullivan, Jordan Leahy, James Lynch, Michael Kearney, Stephen McKenna, Daniel O’Sullivan, Sean Cahill, Dara O’Leary, Tomas Cronin, Evan Jones, Keelan Deegan, Mike Horgan, Ian O’Connell, Cian Murphy.Subs: Oliver Cremin, Connie Cremin.

A very much depleted Spa team took to the field against Currow last Thursday night. Even though they were missing 5 regulars the Spa men put the home team to the pin on their collars for large periods of the game with Evan Jones and Eoghan Cronin excelling when moved to midfield. Niall McCarthy and  Niall Moynihan scored some points in the second half to keep the Spa in touch but as the 2nd half wore on Currow ran out worthy winners. Spa will now play the winners of Rathmore/Cordal in the Semi Final of the East Kerry League.

The boys in blue were tenacious in defence with imperious Ruairi O’Keeffe standing out and Adam Kelly in goals pulling off fantastic saves. The first half was tit for tat with only 2 points separating the teams at half time. However on the resumption the Spa midfield took over with Evan Jones netting 2 goals and Sean Cahill getting another. At wing forward Tomas Cronin was now getting on the end of a lot of ball scoring 4 points from play. Spa under 11 boys lost their opening east Kerry league game at home to legion on Sunday with a scoreline of 5-11 to 5-13. The boys played against a stiff breeze in the first half & showed well in the half. Cathal Kelly, Timmy Moynihan, Oran Daly, Cormac Walsh, Oran O’Neill, David O’Sullivan & Fionn Daly  linked well with each other. Donal Hickey, Evan O’Neill, Christopher Healy, Eric Moriarty played well after been out for most of the season, in the second half. Johnathon O’Donoghue, Daniel Daly, Con Stack, Oisin McCarthy, Ian Coffey who was playing his first competitive game at this level also played well when called on. Missing for this game was Luke O’Neill, Aron O’Connor & Aiden Cronin, hopefully these guys will be back for our next game.

U-14 Boys

With Beaufort leading by 4 points at half time, a much improved second hand performance in the second half helped Spa to victory. Two early points from Beaufort was cancelled out by a well worked goal from spa with Cian Murphy finishing to the net. Another Cian Murphy goal and one from Paul O’Sullivan gave Spa a big lead but this was reduced with four unanswered goals from Beaufort who deserved their lead at half time. In the second half spa lifted their game and raced into 10 point lead with a hat trick of goals from Paul O’Sullivan and a brace from Cian Murphy. The highlight of the game came towards the end of the second half when Cian O’Sullivan pulled off a wonderful save from a penalty  kick in a period when Beaufort where making a major challenge to win this game. Spa held out to record their third win of the campaign. Outstanding performances in this game came from corner backs Sean Hickey and Timothy Moynihan and of course the Spa goalie Cian O’Sullivan with that wonderful penalty save. Final Score Beaufort 9-9 Spa 11-9.

Spa U-16 Boys

Spa travelled to Ballybunion missing a few players and the long journey didn’t help, Spa battled hard in the first half going in at short whistle 1-7 to 1-3 down having missed a penalty. The concession of sloppy goals early in the second half gave Beale the advantage, Spa fought bravely to close the gap scoring 1-7 without reply but a goal in the last few minutes for Beale gave them the points on this occasion. The management also like to wish Ryan Kelliher the best who recently attended Ireland U-16 Soccer trials last Wednesday.

Senior Co League

Spa 3-12 St Mary’s 1-17
This was a cracking game from start to finish and a brilliant win for our senior team. Mike Stam O’Donoghue and Michael Foley opened the scoring before a St Mary’s goal in the 6th minute. Evan Cronin replied in style when he buried the ball in the back of the net after a great move between Jamie Spillane and Mike Stam. Mike Stam tapped over another point before hitting a long high ball in towards the small square and Cormac Cronin knocked it down over the St Mary’ keeper to make it 2-3 to 1-4 at the end of the first quarter. Mike Stam hit over another superb score before the break and at half time Spa led by the minimum Spa 2-4 St Mary’s 1-6, with Spa clearing the goal line twice in the closing moments of the half. Mike Stam and Michael Foley swapped scores with St Mary’s before the Caherciveen side started to dominate and by the end of the third quarter Spa were trailing 2-6 to 1-12. Two fine points from Mike Stam and Shane Cronin kept Spa fighting for scores before Shane Cronin worked the ball in to Mike McCarthy who blasted it to the back of the net to make it 3-8 to 1-13 with twelve minutes remaining. East Kerry Junior League Div 2 Final Replay in Firies

Spa 2-16 Kilcummin 2-15
Great game of evenly matched teams with a mixture of youth and experience. It took over 160 minutes to separate the teams. Padraig Courtney opened the scoring sheet with a point followed by two more unanswered by Corey Doyle and Jamie Spillane. Richie O’Connor registered Kilcummin’s first, with Shane Smyth soon behind. Spa lead the first half throughout with Padraig Courtney and Jamie Spillane getting their 2nd point each. Young Eoghan Cronin found the back of the net for Spa in the 15th minute to stretch the lead. The score going into the second half was Spa 1-7, Kilcummin 0-6 with the help of Jamie’s third point and Mikey Moynihan’s first.
Kilcummin restarted the second half with a scoring onslaught of 1-3 before Jamie Spillane scored a magnificent point in the 18th minute. Padraig Courtney rattled the net with a goal with Dion Marcos first brought the sides level to force a replay 2-11.
Extra time was nail biting stuff and possession was vital down to the last second. Experience of veteran, Conor Gleeson and skill  of Paul Cahill brought us nearer to victory. The defending of Eric O’Donoghue, Conor Cronin and Conor Kearney with a great save from goal keeper from Conor Riordan inched us nearer to glory. However, the calmness and accuracy of Jamie Spillane tipped the balance in our favour on the night with his free taking. Jamie’s point taking  from frees was a huge asset throughout the game. Paul Russell, the Spa winning captain, was elated when he received the winning cup from Chairman Tim Ryan, Chairman of East Kerry Board.
