Kerry Minors

Congratulations to Peter Keane and his team on winning 3-in a row All Ireland Minor Championships. Tommy Markham Cup is heading back to Kerry. Great young talent in Kerry and no doubt some will wear the senior Jersey. Dara Moynihan has been compared to some inspiring past and present Kerry Senior players but  he's a breath of fresh air. A player in his own right.  His lightening speed, tenacious work rate and he must have covered every blade of grass in Croke Park last Sunday twice over. He's unselfish with possession and his vision to place a ball to his fellow forwards to score is just top class. Proud moment for all his family, friends and every Kerry person around the world when he received Player of the Game. Very gracious in his speech and not shy to thank everyone and humbly acknowledge his fellow team mates with great praise.  Very few can say they won 2 All Ireland medals in 5 months and well deserved. This is just the beginning of great things to come.
Back to reality next weekend for Dara in the Minor Championship County final with East Kerry along with some of the All Ireland winning team.

U-16 Boys

Spa played a very strong Firies team at home last Monday night at home in the East Kerry Div 2 quarter final. The boys in blue ran into an early 12 point commanding lead mainly with 3 well taken goals by Sean Cahill. However Firies fought back bravely to whittle the lead down to 7 points at half time. On the resumption Firies attacked relentlessly reducing the deficit to 2 points. The brilliant Alan Kelly in goals pulled off an incredible save from a penalty, but was very unfortunate to have the rebound finished to the net. However the industrious Ruairi O'Keeffe and ever athletic Gary Vaughan then took command in the half back line thwarting attack after attack. Evan Jones showed his class at half forward and created several fantastic scores for those around him. Ian O’Connell in at full forward was also winning some great ball inside setting up the runners coming in off his shoulder giving the Spa the vital scores whereby they ran out 4 point victors. Spa play Dr Crokes away in the semi final.

Ladies football

U-14 Girls
Spa started the East Kerry league against Laune Rangers B in Spa and won comprehensively.
U-16 Girls
Spa 4-5 Finuge 3-13
Finuge won this battle to gain their spot in the County final. We were very slow to start and were well behind in the first half. 2nd half the girls were outstanding and very unlucky with some scores. Could have gone either way but Finuge held their lead throughout. Great effort from captain Ciara Moynihan, Mairead Bennett, Orlaith Spillane, Eimear Beazley and Sarah Fleming. Tim O’Connor, Spa Ladies Football Chairman presented the U-16 girls with a new set of jerseys sponsored by himself. Thanks Tim for all your help both on and off the field.
Senior Ladies
Spa 5-14 Milltown/Listry 2-5
After the run around all week this semi final got played at the late hour of 7.55pm. The girls were fired up and played outstanding football from the throw in. Lynn Jones, Roisin Kearney, Niamh Kearney were a force to be reckoned with. Micaela O’Connors passing were inch perfect to the forward line all night. The young Ciara Moynihan and Mairead Bennett fresh from their u16 semi final previous night were excellent and always on the attack. Saoirse Holland, Mags Cronin and Niamh Clifford were instrumental in many scores on the night. It was great to see new mom Alma O’Mahony back on the pitch and a great addition once again to the senior squad. The defence held Milltown to minimum scores with great work from Aoife Hickey, Sinead Cronin, Katie Cronin, Laura Herlihy and the great saves by Niamh Hickey. The ladies await their opposition in the Mary Jo Curran Cup final which is the first time we reached the final.

Kerry Teams

Well done to the Minor team who reached their third All Ireland in a row. The excellent Dara Moynihan was outstanding once again until he sustained an injury. The Senior team can be proud of their performance but Dublin just pipped them in the end. A great display of football by both teams. Best wishes to Eamonn Fitzmaurice in whatever decision he takes. He has given everything to the Kerry Senior squad for 4 years and a great ambassador for Kerry football both on and off the field. Míle Buíochas.

U-14 Div 5 East Kerry Final
Spa played a physically stronger Scart/Cordal Team in Fitzgerald Stadium last Monday night. Even though Spa conceded a couple of early goals they never gave in. Riain O’Neill defended exceptionally well winning most of the ball going down the middle. He linked well with Ethan O’Neill who fed some great ball into Cian Murphy who in turn crashed a couple of great balls to the net. In the second half Eoghan Mulvany got onto some great ball and made some surging runs up the pitch finishing a fantastic ball to the oppositions net. However on the night a much stronger Scart/Cordal Team won well in the finish. However it was very reassuring to note that many of the Spa team will be under age again next year, whereby they’ll be a year older and stronger.

U-16 Co League

Spa U-16s took to the field away against Ardfert in a top of the table clash last Wednesday night. Spa were missing a number of starters but played courageously. Ardfert grabbed the initiative early on scoring a brace of goals. Sean Cahill in midfield got on the end on a great move to crash a ball to the Ardfert net to keep the boys in blue in contention. Some great defending by Alan O’Sullivan kept the game tight. The introduction of the two Cremin brother Oliver and Connie brought fresh impetus in the 2nd half. However as the game wore on Ardfert scored some important points and were worthy winners. Spa now play Beale at home next Wednesday night at 7pm in the County League Semi final.Team: Adam Kelly, Alan O’Sullivan, Jordan Leahy, James Lynch, Michael Kearney, Stephen McKenna, Daniel O’Sullivan, Sean Cahill, Dara O’Leary, Tomas Cronin, Evan Jones, Keelan Deegan, Mike Horgan, Ian O’Connell, Cian Murphy.Subs: Oliver Cremin, Connie Cremin.

Minors East Kerry League

A very much depleted Spa team took to the field against Currow last Thursday night. Even though they were missing 5 regulars the Spa men put the home team to the pin on their collars for large periods of the game with Evan Jones and Eoghan Cronin excelling when moved to midfield. Niall McCarthy and  Niall Moynihan scored some points in the second half to keep the Spa in touch but as the 2nd half wore on Currow ran out worthy winners. Spa will now play the winners of Rathmore/Cordal in the Semi Final of the East Kerry League.

Senior Co. League Rd 9

Spa 1-14 Glenflesk 5-12
