The day began with a mini-blitz for the U8s and a big thank you to the young players and their coaches and parents who travelled early to Gallarus and stayed and supported the seniors afterwards.
Thank you also to the Gaeltacht club for organising the blitz and welcoming our juveniles on the day!
In the senior game Spa struggled against the elements throughout and An Ghaeltacht deservedly took the two league points.
An Ghaeltacht scored right from the throw in with Éanna Ó Conchúir the first to hit the ball between the posts. Spa were quickly attacking on goal at the other end but Mac an tSaoir blocked Andrew Garnett's first shot before a great move between Shane Cronin and David Spillane in the ninth minute set Garnett up again and this time he rattled the net. A point by Sean Mici Ó Conchúir and two from Kerry's Tomás Ó Sé, and a Liam Kearney point for Spa, had the sides level 1-1 to 0-4 at the end of the first quarter.
Points from Éanna Ó Conchúir and Tomás Ó Sé moved Gaeltacht in front and they almost got through on goal but David Carroll pulled off a super save to deny Seán O Bambaire.
Ciaran Spillane pointed late in the half and at the break the home side were ahead, Spa 1-2 An Ghaeltacht 0-6.
On the restart, Mike O'Donoghue pointed a free for Spa to level the game once again, but Gaeltacht responded with points from Seán Mici Ó Conchúi (2) and Seamus Ó Muircheartaigh before Éanna Ó Conchúir kicked the best score of the day, a brilliant long high ball against the crosswind. Mike O'Donoghue and Tomás Ó Sé exchanged points but An Ghaeltacht added to their lead with scores from Colm Ó Muircheartaigh and Seamus Ó Muircheartaigh, and an injury time goal from Gearóid MacGearailt, to finish the game Spa 1-4 An Ghaeltacht 1-13.
Spa: David Carroll, Brian Lynch, Eoin Fitzgerald, Brian Devane, Ciaran Spillane, Niall O'Mahony, Shane Cronin, Liam Kearney, Mike McCarthy, David Spillane, Mike O'Donoghue, Ryan O'Carroll, Cormac Cronin, Andrew Garnett, Evan Cronin. Subs: Niall McCarthy, Conor Stack, Bryan Russell

Subs: Cathal Ó Gairbhí, Óigí Ó Sé, Gearóid MacGearailt, Seamus Ó Muircheartaigh
Our minors travelled to Cordal this afternoon and in a game that could have gone either way, we lost by the narrowest of margins.
At the end of the first quarter the sides were level at 0-4 apiece, the Spa points from Liam Spillane (3) and Thomas Cronin. Spa took the lead with three more points from Calum Neher and Liam Spillane (2) before Alan O'Sullivan's shot was well saved by Scart/Cordal keeper Nathan O'Rourke. A late score from the home side had Spa leading 0-7 to 0-5 at the half time whistle.
Spa started the second half well and a goal from Roiri O'Connor and a point from Oisin Walsh edged Spa ahead by six. Scart/Cordal however kicked an unanswered 1-4 to take the lead going into the final ten minutes. Roiri O'Connor pointed to level the game at 1-9 each, and Liam Spillane edged Spa in front again, but two late points from Scart/Cordal and the game ended Spa 1-10 Scart/Cordal 1-11.
Wishing our injured players a speedy recovery.

Our IANspirational Ian O'Connell has recorded his first YouTube podcast titled Be Your Self. The recording recounts the events of the day that changed his life completely after falling from his bike in Killarney National Park in August 2017.
Over the past 18 months Ian has been inspiring people of all ages. His attitude towards the events of that day, and his message of positivity to look forward, not back, has resonated with so many people. His interview on the Late Late Show last summer especially left a lasting impression with many people, spreading his message If You Can't Stand Up Stand Out! So much so, the motto featured on Conor McGregor's training top recently!
In this first episode Ian details the events that followed after that fateful moment, explaining the scans, tests, hospitals stays and rehab that he went through for the next nine months before returning home to Killarney.
Have a listen here as Ian tells the story in his own words and the three things that he says he has learned from this experience.
His second podcast will continue his story and tell us about life after coming back home!
It has also been announced recently that Ian will be the 2019 Ambassador for the GAA Golf Challenge, an event where he was the beneficiary of a new wheelchair-adapted car in 2018. Ian is pictured at his home with Liam Daniels, Chairman of the annual GAA Golf Challenge.
The 20th annual GAA Golf Challenge will return to Monaghan on August 9th/10th 2019 and this year's beneficiary is seven year old Fionn McAnaney from Raharney Hurling Club in Co. Westmeath who is raising funds to travel to the USA for medical treatment.

Spa travelled to Valentia on Saturday afternoon and despite the heavy rain and the gale force winds, this became a very high-scoring game.
Skellig/Valentia were playing with the wind in the opening half and were first on the score sheet with four points from Sonny Curran (2), Stephen Keating and Tadhg Lyne. Spa replied with points from Ryan Kelliher and Cian Murphy, but the home team were quickly on the attack again, with Joe Lynch netting the first goal of the day. Spa responded with a Cian Murphy goal and at the end of the first quarter we were trailing 1-2 to 1-5.
Sonny Curran extended the Skellig/Valentia lead with a long high ball between the posts and Alan O'Sullivan replied at the other end for Spa. A goal from Ryan Kelliher followed, and Conor Brosnan's shot went straight between the posts to put just a point between the sides. However, the home team immediately came back down the field and Stephen Keating's goal was quickly followed by a second from Joe Lynch and the score was now 2-4 to 3-5. Two Spa goals from Ryan Kelliher and Michael Horgan, and two more points from Skellig/Valentia's Sonny Curran had the scores level by half time, Spa 4-4 Skellig/Valentia 3-7.
In the second half, Spa were playing with the high winds, and while Ryan Kelliher and Sonny Curran exchanged points at the start, Spa were soon leading with more scores from Ryan Kelliher (4) and Cian Murphy (2). Cian Dowd added a point for Skellig /Valentia but Spa finished the game well and kicked 2-3 in the final minutes, the scores from Ryan Kelliher (1-1), Cian Murphy (0-2) and Oisin Walsh (1-0).
