U14 East Kerry Division 3 Final: Spa 3-15 Firies 4-11
A very exciting final that came down to the last kick of the game to decide who would win this thriller of a game in Fossa. Our young players played with heart and determination till the very end to snatch a great victory over a gallant Firies team. Firies started very strong scoring 1-1 before Timmy Moynihan registered our first point. Firies scored another point before Spa took control with scores from Joey McCarthy, Aidan Cronin, Oran O'Neill and Timmy Moynihan. However, Firies responded with another goal. Joey McCarthy a great addition to the u14 squad was excellent as the free taker and slotted over two points after fouls on Aidan Cronin and Kalvin O'Sullivan. Spa reduced the deficient down to two points until Firies went up the field to score another goal. Luke O'Neill, Oran Daly, Oran O'Neill and Shane O'Sullivan scored to bring us into the lead by one point at the end of the first half.
Firies once again started extremely strong and took the lead in the first five minutes. Our lads were not going to leave this behind and Kalvin O'Sullivan scored a great goal. Opposition replied with three more great points. However, another goal by Timmy Moynihan that just dropped in over the goalies reach. All level again and Firies registered another few points. Luke O'Neill outstanding throughout the entire game with great runs and fielding passed to his cousin, Oran O Neill to score a valuable goal. We once again took the lead by two. Firies scored a goal and took the lead. They followed once again with another point. Our lads dug deep and pulled off another great point by Timmy Moynihan. A foul on Donal Hickey, found Joey McCarthy slotting over another great score. We were level now and a great score by Kalvin O'Sullivan was incidentally the last score of the game. We defended till the end and held possession until referee John Dineen blew the final whistle to the delight of the players and mentors.

U11 East Kerry League Spa 3-11 Glenflesk 4-9
This was another exciting encounter in the U11 category between Spa and Glenflesk. All the ingredients were there for a very close game and all to play for the win, down to the last kick. Spa started very strong going 2-03 to 0-2 points up after ten minutes. Both teams exchanged a few more scores bringing it to Spa 2-06 to Glenflesk 1-04 at half time. The second half Glenflesk started the strongest bringing the game to level. Both teams took a 1 point lead on many occasions but in the end Glenflesk came away with a 1 point win.Well done to all the players in both teams in providing a great game of football. We are home again next Wednesday night at 7pm to Gneeveguilla.

Henry Deane Cup
Spa Senior men played their Bantry Blues counterparts in the annual Henry Deane Cup on Wednesday, the 4th of September. The game was played in Spa. In a very close and competitive match the sides were level at half-time. The second half saw the forwards of Spa gain control and driven on from the back Spa took a five point lead. Bantry responded well but Spa continued to drive forward and emerged victorious. Michael O Donoghue, Spa captain, lifted the Cup which was presented by the president of Bantry Blues: Fr. Joe McCarthy.
Henry Deane, who sadly passed away in 2010, helped forge strong links between both clubs, especially at underage level. The links continue as was seen a year ago when Bantry Ladies played Spa Ladies for the Cup. Furthermore, the links were very evident when Spa U11’s were invited to Bantry during the summer for a blitz.
Henry, who became close friends with Brian Gleeson, even trekked the country supporting Spa whenever he could. He was in attendance when Spa claimed a Munster Intermediate title in Mallow ten years ago. A GAA fanatic, Henry helped form a friendship between two Clubs on opposite sides of the border and his strong message of supporting Club football lives on each year as we remember him in our games.
