Sunday October 23rd at 2pm– County Championship Minor FinalEast Kerry V Mid Kerry in Fitzgerald Stadium.O'Donoghue Cup Quarter Final: Spa 2-13 Legion 1-13 A brilliant team performance from our seniors last Saturday earned a magnificent win against neighbours Legion in Direen to progress to the semi-finals of the O'Donoghue Cup East Kerry Championship. It was a game played with high intensity right from the throw in. Spa raced into an early lead with two opening points from Mike Stam O'Donoghue and a lovely point from Evan Cronin, before Ciaran Spillane made a burst through the Legion defence and passed to Evan Cronin who finished to the net. A point a minute later by Dara Moynihan extended that lead to 1-4 to 0-0. Legion started to hit over some scores before a stunning curling shot from Evan Cronin landed between the posts. Then David Spillane worked in towards goal and laid off to Evan who duly hit the back of the net for a second goal, Spa now leading 2-5 to 0-3 after 20 minutes. Mike Stam O'Donoghue hit 3 points on the trot before Liam Kearney saw black for a foul inside the small square, but James Devane expertly saved James O'Donoghue's penalty shot. Spa were reduced to 14 men shortly before the half time whistle and went in 2-8 to 0-6 ahead at the break.Legion started the second half well and within eight minutes had reduced that gap to 4 points before Mike Stam hit over 2 good points to settle the side. Another Evan Cronin score had Spa leading 2-11 to 0-11 going in to the final ten minutes. Points by Mike Stam and Dara Moynihan extended that lead but Legion fought to the end and a goal in injury time made for a nervous finish, but Spa edged out deserved winners in the end. Some fantastic football from our seniors, with Mike Stam O'Donoghue selected as the Man of the Match after the game. Team: James Devane, Eoin Cronin, Matthew Moynihan, Dan O'Donoghue, Shane Lynch, David Spillane, Michael McCarthy, Liam Kearney, Andrew Garnett, Cormac Cronin, Ciaran Spillane, Dara Moynihan (0-2), Evan Cronin (2-3), Mike Stam O'Donoghue (0-8), Shane Cronin. Subs: Michael Foley, Craig Hickey, Eric O'Donoghue, Alfie Giles.
