Spa GAA is delighted to announce that the club has secured €89,132 in funding through Kerry County Council under the Community Climate Action Programme.
The funding will support a number of important sustainability and energy efficiency projects across our club grounds, helping us continue to reduce energy consumption and improve our environmental impact for the future.
The grant will fund several initiatives within our sporting campus, including:
- Enhanced solar energy generation and battery storage
- Replacement of our main pitch floodlighting with modern LED lighting
- Additional renewable energy, biodiversity and climate action initiatives
Earlier this year, the club also completed significant insulation retrofit works to our multi-purpose Sports Hall and Clubhouse. These upgrades have already improved energy efficiency and thermal comfort for all who use our facilities, while also helping to reduce local greenhouse gas emissions.
Speaking following the announcement, Spa GAA Chairman Tadgh Hickey said:
“How we build, heat and run our sports complexes can play a big part in achieving national climate action targets, and good energy management is a big priority for us at Spa GAA.”
In another exciting development, Spa GAA has recently signed a contract with ePower for the installation of two EV charging points at the club grounds. This will make Spa GAA one of the first GAA clubs in Kerry to provide on-site electric vehicle charging facilities for members, supporters and visitors.
These projects form part of our ongoing commitment to improving club facilities in a sustainable and forward-thinking way for the benefit of our members and the wider community.
