Spa Senior Men secured a commendable fourth-place finish in this season's McCarthy Insurance Group County League Division 1, capping off a campaign that showed tremendous resilience and character.
In what proved to be another competitive Division 1 season, just four points separated second place from tenth. Spa finished with six wins and five defeats from their 11 league games, a remarkable turnaround after a difficult start to the campaign.
The season began with three consecutive defeats against Legion, Glenflesk and Kilcummin, during a period when the squad was hampered by injuries and player unavailability.
A much-needed first victory at home to Beaufort helped ease the pressure, and Spa quickly built momentum with impressive away wins over Dr Crokes and Rathmore. While defeats away to O'Rahillys and at home to Austin Stacks were disappointing setbacks, Spa responded in excellent fashion during the closing weeks of the league.
The team finished strongly with victories away to Dingle and eventual league champions Kenmare Shamrocks, before rounding off the campaign with a crucial home win over Gneeveguilla. That final-day victory ensured Spa retained their Division 1 status and completed an impressive recovery from the opening rounds.
At the other end of the table, Beaufort, Rathmore and Kerins O'Rahillys were relegated to Division 2 (Rahilly's going down on head to head with Gneevguilla). They will be replaced next season by promoted sides Laune Rangers, John Mitchels and Templenoe.
Overall, it was a very positive league campaign for Spa, with the team's performances and determination providing plenty of encouragement ahead of the Senior Club Championship.
Spa have been drawn alongside Dr Crokes, Rathmore and reigning All-Ireland champions Dingle. Details of those championship fixtures will be announced once confirmed.
